For anyone wants to try the Now Dock Panel, I would love the feedback at this stage...

You can find it at: https://github.com/psifidotos/nowdock-panel (master branch)

the Now Dock plasmoid from : https://github.com/psifidotos/nowdock-plasmoid (master branch)
cooperates smoothly with the Now Dock Panel...

Have fun...

So as it appears, there will be a Now Dock Panel :-), the Now Dock plasmoid will cooperate flawlessly with the panel and you will be able to add your clocks, places, trash plasmoids etc... The Now Dock Panel is going to behave just the Now Dock plasmoid with the zoom effect... etc.

Thanks for the transparentpanel.py script. It works here but I'll make a couple of observations. Firstly, the script needed to be run twice on the selected theme to enable a transparent panel. The first time the new theme was created, but it didn't have the transparent panel. When I ran the script on the same theme again the relevant panel became transparent.

Secondly, the transparent panel appears opaque after a logout/login. It regains its transparency after disabling and re-enabling compositing though.

Cheers!

this is a behavior I dont have in my system... You can open a ticket in https://github.com/psifidotos/plasma-transparent-panel in order to start tracking that done...

Some questions:
1. In what theme? does this happen with all your themes?
2. The logout/login situation does it appear also when you use the MX theme (this provides transparent panels for all the panels by default)?

OK thanks. I raised it at your github page.

Great widget!
I just don't really understand how to use it. If I put it on the panel, it's pretty much the same as "icons-only task manager".
Otherwise, as a desktop widget, it just stays hidden below windows. Am I missing something? How to use it properly as a dock without seeing the plasma panel?

Thank u @ishovkun....
According to the plasma developers the transparency you are expecting will be probably available for every theme at Plasma 5.9.

Until then the only way to achieve trasparency for your panel is from your theme...
There are two ways:
1. The theme offers full transparent panel for all your panels for example the MX Theme.

2. The other way (and more diffucult) is the theme you are using to offer full transparency for a specific panel based on its position. For example to have set the left panel full transparent and all the rest untouched...

In my case I changed the Breeze-Dark theme in order to offer full transparency for the left panel...

regards,
michail

Thank u ! :) In a couple of days there will be also a GUI for the transparentpanel script...

Actually I was thinking about this and I started working on a python script

You can specify from the installed themes which panel you want transparent and the script creates a new theme identical to the original but with transparent the specific panel.

The script will disable also all the shadows for the panels but the user will be able to choose which of them he still wants to shown for other panels. For example if the transparent panel is at the bottom then a full width top panel could keep its shadow...

I will play with it a few days and then I will publish it either as a plain python script which can be used from the command line or either as a PyQt application ( :-) a small app which is going to make the user's life a lot easier for this... )

Is there any way to rearrange the launchers after they've been added? I tried dragging, the way the standard icons only task manager does it, but it was simply recognised as a left click.

Report

Psifidotos

unfortunately, not yet, but I hope to implement it in the future...
This is the initial version and I wanted to create first a good foundation to work on with...

I hope you find it interesting even though dragging to rearrange is not yet implemented...

Thanks for your reply and your work. I understand and I'll look forward to future releases :)

All the features you've implemented so far are working great and looking good!

:-) , the power of open source...

I tried to understand how the current icon task manager handles the dragging situation... and after a while, dragging is also possible now :-), this is in the dragging branch in github... I wil test it for a few days and the publish it...

have fun...

Wow! Thank you! I didn't expect you to do this so quickly. As you say "the power of open source"!

I'll grab it from github and play with it also. I hope you're having fun developing this :)

A slight problem with the dragging branch... The dock orientates itself vertically in a horizontal panel and vice versa. Is it reproducible?

Report

Psifidotos

I hardcode the orientation sometimes in order to debug and test what is going in different orientations... It must be fixed now...

Hi,

first the dock look really good some suggestions:
- can I say I'd like to have the widget always on top
- the resizing (and rotating) applet stuff is usefull when you want it vertical but when it's finished show the settings (always) isn't perfect
- can I have different colors for the points. blue for the selected app, gray for non selected, light gray for minimized apps, ...
