Description:

VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.1.x, please update to 2.2.

Search and download subtitles from opensubtitles.org using the hash of the video currently playing or its title.
INSTALLATION:
- download the file from the "Files" tab above
- create a directory "extensions" at this location and put the file "vlsub.lua" inside:
* Windows (all users): %ProgramFiles%VideoLANVLCluaextensions
* Windows (current user): %APPDATA%vlcluaextensions
* Linux (all users): /usr/lib/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Linux (current user): ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (all users): /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (current user): /Users/%your_name%/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/lua/extensions/

...or use the installer below if you're on Windows 7 (32 or 64)

To start the extension click on View > VLSub or Vlc > Extensions > VLSub on Mac OS.

Limitation

* Impossible to automatically save the subtitles on Windows if the path to your video contain non ASCII (non-english) characters and the "search by hash" method will be slower.
* The "search by hash" method will fail on Windows if for video files >2Go (if VLC is compiled with lua 5.1 anyway)

Well that's weird, the error says "unexpected symbol near '<' on line 4", but there is no '<' character on line 4...
You should check if the script you have on your computer is really the same as the latest version here:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/exebetche/vlsub/master/vlsub.lua
The path of the script on your computer is that:
/Users/darko.vukoje/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/lua/extensions/vlsub.lua
Maybe a VLC update that failed?

Hey there,

I get the following whenever I try to download a subtitle:

"Extention not responding!
Extention 'VLsub 0.10.0' does not respond.
Do you want to kill it now?

The only way out of this dialog box is by clicking "Yes". I don't get an error log after this. VLC just continues working after the extention is killed. Can anyone help? I can search for the subtitles file, either by hash or by name, it's only when I try to download them that this happens.

I'm on Mac OS Sierra.

I have an issue. VLSub 0.10 searches the subtitles and they're displayed, but when I hit Download selection, it displays "Downloading Subtitles" but nothing happens, and then "Extension not responding. Do you want to kill it?" What to do?
I'm using VLC 2.2.4

Turns out, I needed to update it to 0.10.2 and then delete the VLSub 0.9.0 from extensions directory.

I have an issue with subtitles downloading. mostly it says "your program does not responding" so i installed VLSub and not it says "server not responding"

VLC 2.2.4, Windows 10 Anniversary Update x64 still have an issue for VLSubs 0.9, and they're far too late on their update roadmap schedule, like 4 months late based on their tracking page. to include a new update for VLSub to fix this.

VLSub both still not responding on Hex and name search. Here's my debug log http://pastebin.com/cQNNmhad

And I'll suggest to make your own update mechanism, separate ti VLC releases because the community seems so slow and inactive these days, and flight in on the next VLC update,

I have an issue, subs are downloaded incomplete, they stop about minute 33 (40/45 minutes episodes)
Then if I delete the .srt and download it again it appears complete

Hi,

I need assistance with VLSub 0.10.2. When searching for subtitles I get an error "503 Service Unavailable" (200).
I'm in macOS Sierra 10.12.3 and VLC 2.2.4. Would greatly appreciate your help.

Hi,

Hey,

I've got a problem on VLsub using 0.10.2
When I search for subtitles, I got this error: code '401 Unauthorized' (200)

The only problem I have been having with this is it does not reset itself after downloading a subtitle. On next search it tries to search for the previous file. It must be deactivated and restarted to work.

i dont like the opensubtitles subs: - they insert advertising inside the movie! - they mention their name at the end of the subtitles, BEFORE the end of the movie, come on, could they wait the credits at least ? - many times the subs found are not accurate to the file, not synced, or HI Now i get subs from subscene, they're more reliable and less annoying. Too bad because VLSub was a great idea.
