Description:

VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.1.x, please update to 2.2.

Search and download subtitles from opensubtitles.org using the hash of the video currently playing or its title.
INSTALLATION:
- download the file from the "Files" tab above
- create a directory "extensions" at this location and put the file "vlsub.lua" inside:
* Windows (all users): %ProgramFiles%VideoLANVLCluaextensions
* Windows (current user): %APPDATA%vlcluaextensions
* Linux (all users): /usr/lib/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Linux (current user): ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (all users): /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (current user): /Users/%your_name%/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/lua/extensions/

...or use the installer below if you're on Windows 7 (32 or 64)

To start the extension click on View > VLSub or Vlc > Extensions > VLSub on Mac OS.

Limitation

* Impossible to automatically save the subtitles on Windows if the path to your video contain non ASCII (non-english) characters and the "search by hash" method will be slower.
* The "search by hash" method will fail on Windows if for video files >2Go (if VLC is compiled with lua 5.1 anyway)

It's obvious by now that the old version of this extension no longer works with the latest update of VLC. Are you going to fix it? Let us know what you're doing about it.

I've been trying to get the new VLSub extension to work but no luck so far. Can someone please explain the installation of the new VLSub extension (v0.10.0) as I suspect I've committed some error while doing so. Please help me out asap. Any help will be appreciated.

if 0.10 version doesn't work try this
Go to the extension's configuration and click on "VLSub working directory" and delete the file "vlsub_conf.xml".
I hope this will help...Tnaket

Kindly help please, Im using VLC 2.0.2 with VLSub 0.10.0 and its not working, the VLC view tab displays the vlsub 0.10.0, and when i click it while playing the movie, the title appears and when click "Search by hash" , no subtitles appeared. Kindly help please.

Sorry to bother you sir. But I try the new version and it doesn't work for me. It doesn't try me to kill the plug-in or anything, I just try to search and nothing happen. What's weirder is when I try to uninstall and reinstall VLC, the VLSub 9.0 is appearing in VLC lua extensions folder everytime. Despite the fact that I try clean installing multiple time. I can delete it. But 10.0 version just don't work. I don't know what I messed up. Any help would be appreciated. Windows 7 64-Bit.

Hello,

I am running VLC 2.2.4 with VLSub 0.10.0 and I still can't download any subtitles. Tried searching by hash and by name, I always get a message to kill the plug-in and when I do so it force quits VLC. How can I fix this? Thanks!

Hi, I just updated the vlc sub to the new one, but now it says that the server is overloaded. so still no subs, can someone tell me what to do about this?

The only problem I have been having with this is it does not reset itself after downloading a subtitle. On next search it tries to search for the previous file. It must be deactivated and restarted to work.

i dont like the opensubtitles subs: - they insert advertising inside the movie! - they mention their name at the end of the subtitles, BEFORE the end of the movie, come on, could they wait the credits at least ? - many times the subs found are not accurate to the file, not synced, or HI Now i get subs from subscene, they're more reliable and less annoying. Too bad because VLSub was a great idea.
