Description:

VLSub is not working with Vlc 2.1.x, please update to 2.2.

Search and download subtitles from opensubtitles.org using the hash of the video currently playing or its title.
INSTALLATION:
- download the file from the "Files" tab above
- create a directory "extensions" at this location and put the file "vlsub.lua" inside:
* Windows (all users): %ProgramFiles%VideoLANVLCluaextensions
* Windows (current user): %APPDATA%vlcluaextensions
* Linux (all users): /usr/lib/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Linux (current user): ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (all users): /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/
* Mac OS X (current user): /Users/%your_name%/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/lua/extensions/

...or use the installer below if you're on Windows 7 (32 or 64)

To start the extension click on View > VLSub or Vlc > Extensions > VLSub on Mac OS.

Limitation

* Impossible to automatically save the subtitles on Windows if the path to your video contain non ASCII (non-english) characters and the "search by hash" method will be slower.
* The "search by hash" method will fail on Windows if for video files >2Go (if VLC is compiled with lua 5.1 anyway)

Hi, I have been using vlsub successfully (with a few server errors here and there) for a few weeks, since getting the latest VLC that includes it in the install.
Today it started behaving in a new way - finding the necessary subs files but 'sticking' [with a displayed full progress bar] on the "downloading subtitles" step. a rar file and autorenamed sub file appear in the directory, but the extension hangs and the subs do not function.

I think opensubtitles.org change their policy on downloading, now it works only if you create a user account on their website and enter your username and password on "Config" in VLsub, otherwise the download is blocked.

nice addon just discovered it but a bit disappointed with opensubtitles, either server error or not matching subs

any chance adding subscene and/or addic7ed for shows?

when I click either Search by hash or by name I get above said error? Something wrong with communication with server?

Hi all

When I search for the subtitles, several show up in the list. However, when I click on the subtitle I would like to download, and press the "download" button, nothing happens.

You have to download the last version of the script from here, the one included in Vlc is outdated. Then remove "/Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/VLSub.luac" and replace it with the new one.

If you learn how to read, you will see that below that step tells you what to put where for each operating system and depending what system you have that is what you put where...simple stuff really just need to learn how to read instructions.

Hello,

for a long time, I got the message "Error: unable to save subtitles Click here to open the file" every time I used vlsub. But I' just found out a fix.

I am french, so my series folder is named "Séries". I changed it to "Series" (with an "e", not an "é") and I don't have an error anymore.
It seems that this error is caused by some characters in the path where you try to save the subtitles.

Hope it will help some of you.

I speak English but am not a programmer. I get the same error message: "Error: unable to save subtitles Click here to open the file"(and clicking there doesn't do anything.)
So 1: How and exactly where do I paste the following: "/Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/"?
I tried pasting it in the window that is titled: VLSub Working Directory in "Configuration" but it just reverted to its original path.
And 2: The above instructions that say "To start the extension click on View > VLSub or Vlc > Extensions > VLSub on Mac OS." make no sense to me because the View tab has none of those choices.

The only problem I have been having with this is it does not reset itself after downloading a subtitle. On next search it tries to search for the previous file. It must be deactivated and restarted to work.

i dont like the opensubtitles subs: - they insert advertising inside the movie! - they mention their name at the end of the subtitles, BEFORE the end of the movie, come on, could they wait the credits at least ? - many times the subs found are not accurate to the file, not synced, or HI Now i get subs from subscene, they're more reliable and less annoying. Too bad because VLSub was a great idea.
