Description:

Simple Menu is an intentionally minimal launcher widget for Plasma 5. Powered by the same powerful backend as Plasma 5's bundled launchers, its UI is similar to the fullscreen Application Dashboard, just in a small, floating window. In addition to the application grid and filtering, it supports favorites, search and basic system actions.

NOTE: Simple Menu requires Plasma version 5.9 or higher and KDE Frameworks version 5.34 or higher.

Last changelog:

Changes in v1.0.12 9 months ago

* Menu entries are now always sorted alphabetically. On future Plasma releases this will include the category list on the right of Simple Menu.
* The search field now has a placeholder text.

No problem. So the way this works is that you ask the folks making your Linux distribution via their support channel how you can get a newer version of KDE Frameworks. Or you look if there's a newer version of your distribution available.

Hi, is there anyway to resize this menu? I want to make it fit just about the whole screen. I don't mind doing it in, say, a config file as long as I know what to edit.
Thanks!

Nope, sorry! But you might like using Application Dashboard from kdeplasma-addons, which is very similar in design and fullscreen.

Bummer :\

I used Application Dashboard prior to finding your menu, but I like yours better. Looks nicer, I like the white-ish color, and I like how the "All apps" screen is alphabetical but it doesn't have separators for each letter like dashboard does. Thanks for the great tweak none the less!

I use this addon almost everyday, and I find it very handy. Thanks! :)
There's only two things that I find awkward:

- The icons in the favourites page seems to be randomly sorted. Is there a way to choose how to sort them automatically (sort by name/description) or manually?

- I'd like the exit/shutdown/reboot/lock button to be easier to reach and click. Any chance to make them bigger without ruining the aesthetic?

New favorites get added at the end of the list. You can rearrange them with drag and drop (long press to start).

No good idea @ those buttons, sorry!

Thanks! I didn't knew that I could rearrange them that way. No problem for the session buttons. :)

Hi, great plugin!

I'd like to propose a couple of features:

- the option to put the category menu to the left of the app icons instead of to the right;

- the option to reduce (or completely eliminate) the blank space that currently we have between the menu window and the panels/screen limit; in other words, aligning the windows to the screen.

Thank you.

Hi,

Can you add tooltips for program names? It's the only thing missing from this menu for me. I like having applications shown as "Name (Description)" and not having tooltips kind of makes that pointless.

Thanks.

Hi, Thank for your work.

I would like to make a suggestion. This menu could be configured to adjust the location on the screen. If you have Latte dock and you have this menu I believe that it would better if it would be aligned with dock bar.

Another thing is if you have dual screen the menu appear in another screen although you click in the primary screen.

Best regards

The multi-screen issue was fixed a few updates ago - make sure you're running the latest Simple Menu.

Could you explain what side margins you want to remove and why?

that's why: Looks like a piece of crap. at least option should be left in the settings.
In the same way, an option can be added to hide the logout button and others. and Must be included in the full screen option.
You can also add an animation for transitions between the application pages.

Maybe I'm dumb, but I really can't figure out which margins you mean o_O
Yep, about the possibility to hide some buttons - that's right, but everything else ... What does that mean?

I was asking to understand what margins you even mean - but you decided to be aggressive and mean for some reason. Huh.

Hi! Can you add mod with 6*6 or 6*8 grid? That will be more usable on portrait screens.

Changes in v1.0.11 10 months ago

* Launching apps by touchscreen tap now works.

* Resource usage optimizations for an even faster and lighter menu.
* Minor bugfixes.

Changes in v1.0.10 11 months ago

Changes in v1.0.9 1 year ago

* Fixed a bug causing system action buttons to stay highlighted when the mouse pointer leaves the area.

Changes in v1.0.8 1 year ago

* Made switching categories by hovering them optional. You can now turn it off in the settings.
* Custom panel button images now work better. They're smoothly scaled, and square images are automatically rounded to crisp sizes just like normal icons are.
* The UI for setting custom button images now uses the regular icon picker dialog (it supports custom images in recent releases of the KDE Frameworks libraries) and you can also set a custom button image by just dropping it on the config area.
* Speed optimizations to make the menu open faster and speed up switching of categories.
* Fixed hovering a menu item interfering with arrow keyboard navigation on newer versions of Qt.

Changes in v1.0.7 1 year ago

* Fixed arrow navigation through the search results after entering search terms not working.
* Improved arrow navigation while searching: Previously, it was necessary to arrow down into the results after entering search terms before horizontal arrow navigation through the search results would work. This was changed, so that e.g. arrow right will now immediately move to the second search result, for a more friction-free search and launch experience.
* Tab and Shift+Tab can now be used to cycle through the search field, the system favorites (Shutdown & co) and the category list.

Changes in v1.0.6 1 year ago

* Fixed triggering context menu actions.

Changes in v1.0.5 1 year ago

* Speed optimizations to open the menu faster.

Changes in v1.0.3 1 year ago

* Fix favorites on Plasma 5.11 and support the new globally shared favorites and unique per-activity favorites.

Changes in v1.0.2 1 year ago

* Made sure initial arrow key press always selects first item.
* Polished search experience: First search result is selected while searching, no longer requiring extra key presses to launch.
* Fixed auto-hide panels not staying open while Simple Menu is open.
* Support for the panel icon size hint in Frameworks 5, prevents panel icon getting too large in wide panels.
* Fixed panel icon missing mouseover highlight effect.
* Now requiring KDE Frameworks v5.34.
