Outstanding work. I moved from Elementary OS to Kubuntu just for this since I create animated/looped wallpaper. It worked without any issues. This one really should be bundled with KDE core.

Se agradece el buen trabajo, estaba probando otro antes (org.video.kde) pero provocaba pantallas negras entremedio y era molesto, con tu herramienta eso no pasa y está más bonita y todo, genial!

There is a rather annoying bug: If the video file can't be played (or just doesn't exist), it'll spin in an infinite loop and waste power with 100% cpu load. To fix that, merge this into the media players:

MediaPlayer [
playlist: Playlist {
onItemInserted: if(playlistplayer.error != MediaPlayer.NoError) playlistplayer.play()
}
onError: playlist.removeItem(playlist.currentIndex)
}

Ok, it worked by adding: kpackagetool5 --generate-index -t Plasma/Wallpaper

srog, "import QtMultimedia 5.8, import QtQuick 2.7" seem to be outdated in "Linux Mint 18.3 KDE x64" and from what I've read it's better to get a newer OS, but there isn't one atm for Linux.. Is there a workaround?

Starting the Mint in the VBox: https://imgur.com/868sm8e . Yes the Qt is a bit old. There are errors: "QtQuick version 2.7 in not installed" and "QtMultimedia version 5.8 is not installed". Editing all qml files in $HOME/.local/share/plasma/wallpapers/VideoWallpaper/. Lowering the QtQuick and QtMultimedia to 2.6: https://imgur.com/ZwMYPRO . Installing GStreamer plugins: https://imgur.com/vrMXnk0 . Picking a video file: https://imgur.com/Gre0zWC ... seems to work: https://imgur.com/PCYsV1R . Note ! The Qt did get a big boost with the Qt 5.8 when it started to cache the qml files (qmlc).

Is there anyway to avoid the 1 second "glitch" when using a loop video?

Probably the Qt bug: https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-49446 . A workaround is to use two players - option 'Use double player'. More of that: https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=289&t=131783&start=15#p365313 and even more: https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=289&t=131783&start=75#p395779

I'm on Tumbleweed and i can't seem to install the plugin.
I've tried the instructions here and from https://software.opensuse.org/package/plasma5-wallpaper-video without success.
The plugin does not show up for selection.

Help, anyone?

I only can comment those things that I have released. That is: KDE Store - Video Wallpaper. Testing with the OpenSuse: https://youtu.be/N83vVjFsvuA - Working. You could try to recreate the plugin index: ' kpackagetool5 --generate-index -t Plasma/Wallpaper'. More: 'kpackagetool5 --help'

Hi, srog
i've redone exactly aht you've done, step-by-step, and had success! :)
I think the plugin was not showing up because i was doing it as root, not as the normal user. Working like a charm!!!

Thank you SOOO MUCH!!!

One last question: isn't this available for easy install from a GHNS system somewhere?

Looks very good from the screenshot! Been waiting for KDE to implement this, and until then I'm glad there now exists a plugin.
