Just convert this png to a raw ppm (not an ascii one) and copy in gimp_installation_prefix/share/gimp/gimp_major_relase_version_number/

well, open it with gimp and save as ppm
Open the file in the Gimp. Click FILE SAVE AS. Make sure "By Extension" is selected and type in GIMP_SPLASH.PPM Choose RAW
