I haven´t succeded making a screenshot of verbose mode until now, so i´ve added the picture without bar.
I´ve written it on openSUSE10.2, for me it works pretty good, if it doesn´t do so for you, please let me know.
I can better help you if you tell my what exactly doesn´t work and if you add the output of the mkinitrd command.

Install: Extract, copy to /etc/bootsplash/themes, use YaST to change "Bootsplash_Theme", run su -c " mkinitrd -s 1024x768" and restart your computer
