Why there is no KDE3 liveCD? KDE4 is not mature enough to be a replacement for KDE3. Though, I'm using it (but with kde3 installed).

It's pretty unstable in Live mode and slow. Unstable (KDE4) as it seems to kill plasma from time to time, also there's not folder view and the ability to resize the panel isn't there. This seems like a very poor beta release. You can't blame Kde 4 as the current releases of 4 has better stability and far better functionality. I hope people can recognize that and this doesn't corrupt any moral of upcoming 4.1 release. I really wish you guys would have done it right instead of slapping together what worked for you and pushing crap out. A few extra weeks and some real development would have been the difference between something revolutionary and something that's now come to be expected from Suse. Flame away as the truth hurts.

Running actually on a SuSE 0.2 on Fujisu Siemens P III without problem. Testing your live CD SuSE 10.3 with a lot of problem. CANNOT DETECT SOUND card integrated in my ASUS mother card. Thinks this CD is not tested !! ! review your copy Sorry

It was my favourite distribution till the MS-Novel deal happen. Before that they worked for the community; now they work against community. Look at the facts! FSF is working on GNASH and DOTGNU; whilst they work on Moonlight and Mono (Remember Mono works upon .NET). What about the M$ - Novel deal; clearly they are working with M$ against community. Ahh what about Novel position about OOXML? mmmmhhh Maybe Novel was bought by M$. Now I use Debian.

You probably never ran fedora I guess. My first linux experience was with openSuse 7.0 and I liked it, YaST is easy to use. But I don't use it anymore, I switched to fedora because it has much more updated packages. The current kernel I have is 2.6.22.1-41.fc7 at a x86_64 right from the updates repo and of course because of the speed. I believe fedora is way faster then SuSE. I took a look at the screenshots and of course its configurable but I don't like those fancy vista-ish menu's with search things flying around everywhere which slow down your system while indexing. They try to make it too easy, but that's my opinion. I hope it'll exists for a long time though, it's a great distro for ppl who are new to linux or who ... just like it!

I would not be surprised in the future if opensuse disappeared altogether, or became purchase only. It's fantastic after it's configured to my tastes. Turn off zmd and use opensuseupdater, which is very dependable, and import all the missing libraries by hand, and you have a distro beyond compare. That's what worries me. It's almost too good to expect it to remain open source. And one thing is certain, Microsoft doesn't like the idea of a high quality competing operating system which just happens to be free. Right now they are probably meeting with the Legion of Doom to plan the demise of opensuse. ;-)

What about the essential packages missing from the release 10.2 such as the qwt library? They were present in the 9.x. The SuSE distribution is continuously shrinking. Without these libraries, I cannot develop applications for this distribution.

I agree with the comments above about releasing too often and fixing the bugs afterwards. I must say it has always been like that, but although many people complained about this and suggested to release less often, they just won't listen. BUT WHAT I REALLY HATE IS THAT IN RELEASE 10.1 YAST HAS BEEN CRIPPLED. I agree with the people that also complain about this here. Yast and Yast update system was working great, reliable, and fast since the early days of SuSE, and before anyone else (Red Hat, Microsoft, etc) was able to have a decent patching and updating system. None had anything working then, apart from SuSE, who had Yast and Yast-updater, WORKING (just working) since SuSE 6.0 or less. Now, since this zmd shakeware was introduced, nothing works, and when the luck is such that something kind of works, it's just SLOW. It's sad that now one has to hope for a newer and better updater (like a opensuse updater, or whatever) because the updater already existed, it was good, it was user friendly, it was reliable (very important for such a task, right?), it was called Yast. And now it has been crippled.

do you think that it was released a bit to early? Powersaved just dont work, IMAP applications cannot connect to some servers, to others it can. MySQL gets error 1023. I have used suse since 9.1 and have never found any distribution as easy to setup/use as suse, but after Novel took over the distribution I just found more and more stuff that just did not work. The zmd thingy are just a nightmare. And now in version 10.2 just because I have packman, I cannot use yast to remove applications unless I'm online. I'm really sad about the turn that opensuse is taking. Please someone, come with some really encourraging comments.
