Description:

Big Sur Status Area

This is a fork of panel-indicator from "lvitals Repository" y panel-indicator from "lenuswalker Repository" that I have modified to bring the macOS Big Sur "System Tray" look to Gnome, moving the Gnome panel icons to the "Status Area", separating the icons and giving a better appearance to the Gnome Shell. This is still a work in progress, so I will be adding new things over time.

Installation

There are two ways to install the extension on your distro with Gnome Desktop; the first is manually, the second, and easier, is the installation from the official page of Gnome extensions**

Manual Installation

To do a manual installation, all you have to do is download the extension from Big Sur Status Area and unzip the file to obtain a folder that you must move to the path:

/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/

To see the "/.local/" folder you need to access the hidden files and for that you must first press the "ctrl + h" keys or go to the Nautilus menu and check the "Show Hidden Files box.

Installation from Gnome Extensions

**SOON! When I have a little more time I will upload the extension to "Gnome Extesions" since I do not have an account yet on the page and I need to inform myself and read the information about the rules of the page to upload an extension. I will try to do it as soon as possible, so, a little bit of patience, thanks }; -]

CONFIGURING THE EXTENSION

To achieve the Big Sur look with the Big Sur Status Area extension, go to "Settings" and then to "Position and size", check the "Calendar" to be moved to the left, then follow the next order from bottom to top : Calendar, User, Notification, Volume, Network, Night Light, Bluetooth, Power (Brightness).
Then go to the "Settings" tab and paste the following time format for the clock: "% a% b% d% H:% M% p".

You can also choose to show the battery percentage in case of being a Laptop, obviously; it can also display username instead of icon on panel.

NOTE
After moving the folder to the extensions path, restart the Gnome Shell, press "Alt + f2", then type "r" and "Enter", this will restart the shell and the extension will appear in "Tweak Tools".
If you are using Wayland, you will need to restart your session.
All this in case the extension does not appear in the list of extensions in "Tweak Tools" or in "Extensions"

Unfortunately I'm still working on adding the other icons: Network, Volume, Night Light, etc ... because the Big Sur icon packs still don't have the Big Sur look in the Gnome panel and they look too small; I have already reported to "zayronXIO", the creator of the "Mkos-Big-Sur" icon pack, and hope that there will be an update to fix the problem soon.
In the meantime, I'll keep researching how to add the remaining icons, because the ways I've tried don't work, when I have a little more time I'll update the extension.

**SOON!
- Gnome Shell theme better adapted for the Big Sur Menu for Gnome Desktop and Big Sur Status Area extensions, since most have very large spaces and do not show the dividing line in the panel menus, so I have modified a theme to that fits and works better.
- Big Sur Dash to Dock Extension with floating Dock and rounded corners.

I hope you enjoy this extension on your top panel and all its functions are useful in your everyday work, and Please report any problem to improve the extension };-]

I have now tried to upload my fork of the extension "panel-indicators" with the name "Big Sur Status Area", and to my surprise there is a person with the nickname, Nickolas974, who has uploaded my version of the extension to Gnome Extensions, and an update appears that I have not done, if you update, the extension It stops working because I don't know what that person has modified, and has put the name that I changed when I forked the original versions, so, be very careful with that update of that extension, my version has a link to my Github page where I have given the credits to the people who made the extension, and this person, Nickolas974, has not given the source of the code. I try to do things well and in the extensions that I have modified I have always left a link to the creators of the original extensions, because the work and effort is theirs, I have only made simple modifications to adapt them to my objectives, in this case from, "Big Sur Status Area" and the others, to achieve a similar appearance to macOS and I have documented the things that I have done and I have left the respective links, please be careful with that extension.

I am actually in Pop_OS !, and I am trying to understand how to do it because it would be great to have it separated in the panel, when I find the way to do it I will do an update. Thanks for your vote, friend. ];-}
