Available as/for:
Description:
Folder view fork that can have a transparent background independently of the desktop theme, and can hide icons with a double-click in an empty area. You can use it both as a plasmoid, or as an alternative for the desktop (right click on the desktop, "configure desktop...", etc.).

This was fun to make.

User defined background can follow the icons behavior when hovered. Only works with the background defined by the user, not the theme background.

Been using this applet for a while, but today after the update for Plasma 6 came through, it gave an error. I tried installing v3.7 locally but that also gives an error.

Hi, this applet is for plasma 5. I want to port it to plasma 6, but have been lacking the time, so have a little patience.

OK great news - thanks.

When I set the Transparent Folder View as the desktop layout, the option to create a new file on the desktop, accessed from the context menu, does not work, no option is shown. When I go back to Plasma's default folder view layout, the option works normally again! Could you fix this? I love the option to hide desktop items with a double mouse click, this option is fantastic! https://imgur.com/LWL4dNR

Try the new version.

I updated and unfortunately it doesn't work 99% of the time. This is my system information: Operating System: KDE neon 5.25 User Edition KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.97.0 Qt Version: 5.15.5 Kernel Version: 5.11.0-37-generic (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11

Can't reproduce this behavior. Did you restart plasmashell after updating? A workaround I found when I was making the fix was to right click on an icon and let any submenu be displayed, then when right clicking on the desktop the submenus for creating a new file would appear. Does this behavior happens with you too?

d3xt3r

When I start the system, this option does not work, for it to work again, I just need to open any file on the desktop. The problem is when you don't have any files on the desktop!

thevladsoft

That's the behavior pre-fix. An option could be to completely uninstall the plasmoid (instead of just update) and then to install again. Make sure not to have it selected as the desktop layout in the process, so plasma doesn't try to keep old files. Other than that I don't know what could be happening.

9 I loved the option to hide icons by double clicking on an empty area. But unfortunately it doesn't meet my need, which is to hide the icons that are saved/stored on the desktop itself. Your widget only hides the icons inside the Folder View window, the files saved/stored on the desktop remain visible. I have opened a request for this feature to be implemented on the Plasma desktop itself. This is the link if you want to comment/contribute: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=452916

I don't know if it's the same think you ask, but the plasmoid can be used both as a widget and a replacement for the desktop. If you right click on the desktop, click on configure, you will see an option to change the kind of desktop. There you can choose Transparent folder view. Maybe after doing that you'l have to enable the option to hide icons with double click.

I haven't found a way to do this, even following your directions. Could you upload a screenshot on Imgur, with the window where it is possible to make such a configuration?

Thanks a lot for the help! Your version of Folder View does not support the translation into Brazilian Portuguese, whereas the standard Folder View of Plama is all translated. Do you intend to support translation in the future?

Thanks for adding this option ;)

8 Very nice, but what I'd like even better is for the degree of transparency to be customizable? Completely transparent background is better than completely opaque, but 75% or 50% transparency would be even better for me.

thevladsoft

That's an entirely different thing, as right now it only chooses between the theme background or not background. A solution would be to add a background configurable by the user. The problem is that it could not be equal to the theme one.

thevladsoft

You know what? I just implemented.

10 Something you would very much like to see in plasma or folder view would be the possibility to hide desktop icons with a double-clicking mouse in an empty area, there are several programs for this purpose in Windows. Some examples: http://www.softwareok.com/?Download=AutoHideDesktopIcons http://www.mediafire.com/file/f567svcbkalzjf7/HideDesktop_Setup.zip http://www.mediafire.com/file/1ph653a3lborpfa/DoubleClickHide_Setup.zip http://www.softdownload.com.br/oculte-icones-area-de-trabalho-um-clique.html http://www.mediafire.com/file/lhifdxjo3jj6m5v/ShowHide.zip/file

thevladsoft

Done. He he, you gave me a "hold my beer" moment, but it was fun to make the change. Thanks!

th0m4s

Thank you, I'll test as soon as possible!
