Thank you, it worked now! Pulled it from GitHub - for some reason the hotfix in here still wasn't working, even after restarting Plasma.
Unrelated, it'd be great if you included an option in settings to set the space separating the pills. Maybe even another one to set the background color for the active pill only, if you feel fancy.

Very nice, sadly does play perfectly well with activities (background color fails to change).
There is no support for activities as of yet.

I installed the hotfix but pills still don't work
Did you restart the plasmashell? If not, please open an issue on github. It would be better to track it there.
A restart helped. Everything works
Just tried it, though when I set it to "Pills", it shows nothing. Not sure if it should look like GNOME's, like the thumbnail suggests.
Accidental bug, fixed! Pushing here might take like 10 minutes, meanwhile you can pull from github.
