Description:

audiokonverter is a service menu (and also a commandline utility) to easily convert from MP3, OGG, AMR, AAC, M4A, FLAC, WMA, RealAudio, Musepack, Wavpack, WAV and movies to MP3, OGG, M4A, WAV and FLAC in Konqueror by right-clicking on them. It needs ffmpeg/avconv, oggenc, oggdec, faac, faad, flac, mplayer and lame to work. id3lib is optional for full functionality. Also optional are vorbis-tools and metaflac for handling other metadata. See README how/where to get that software.
Be sure about needed software when installing prebuilt packages!

Please vote for "good" if you like the program. There are many downloads with each release, but only a few votes.

I'm curious. Who is that adorable baby you use for an icon?

Think it is his son: "Linus"

LOL You think?

I know Labrum in RL, so i know he has a son called Linus. As you can see on his homepage his baby looks quite similar to his avatar.

OOOhh I thought you said he was YOUR son. Ok now I'm clear. Either way that is the most adorable picture I've seen in a long time of a baby laughing.

I love children, I get such a laugh out of them. Excellent choice of an avatar.

Thanks for the answer!

Thank you for making this! I recently switched back to linux and had acquired some wma files from a friend and have been trying to find a tool to convert them to ogg. I had actually given up for the time being and stumbled upon this, thank you!!

your install works nicely, but it doesn't do dependencies (id3 libs). is it possible to make it as deb? you can talk with pusling so he can put it in his repos http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=29317

You can also request him to include it. :-) I would support it if needed.

Your tool looks quite nice!

Unfortunately it does not preserve the directory structure correctly:

Assuming a directory ~/ogg/artists/albums/tracks.ogg

I want to convert all oggs to mp3s. Applying audioconvert on ~/ogg/ and saving to ~/mp3/ gives me ~/ogg/mp3/convertedtracks.mp3 and cuts out the artists/albums directories.

If this problem would be solved, this tool could be a choice for mass-converting audio files.

Thanks,
Nico

Thanks for your input, I will think about a solution.

Thanks for fixing this!

Unfortunately, there's still a small bug, which makes audioconvert only usable with absolute paths from the command line:
When using relative paths, line 606 tries to enter further down in the directory tree than it is possible.

According to the Freshmeat webpage, audiokonverter is GPLed, so where is the source code?

Report

There is no source and no compiling, only scripts in readable text files.

Doesn't the source code come in the *.tar.bz2 file?

Good job, keep your project going ;). I really need such tools, for converting from one format to another (mp3 to ogg to play on mobile phone).

I tried with many different files, combined ogg and mp3 and the result is absolutly excellent.
Keep the good work on !!

Flac...... --replay-gain tag. It will help so much if that was on. And if you transcoded it kept the tags. Redoing about 300 songs by hand is painful.

The keep stereo sounds a lot better...... it's not double worded in a way.

Also keeping those tags is next on my list, but spare time is rare. Please be patient.

Can you please change the wording to;

Convert to Mono?
Yes|No

Your wording now is very difficult for people that don't read english well.

Also, can you add where it will tag OGG files transcoded from FLAC. Next, can you turn on REPLAYGAIN on the encoders that support it.

I cannot change it to "convert to mono?" because the default is always "Yes"! I complained to the KDE developers, but they did not change it up to now. To make it easier I can only skip this possibility. "Keep stereo" is inadequate in case of mono files. Idea?

Which one can do replaygain? In lame it looks turned on by default.

This is a fantastic little app. However, it still needs support for shorten (shn) in order to be fully complete, in my opinion. Every time there's a new release I wind up adding the code to handle SHN files, although I only add what I need (SHN -> WAV, I'm too lazy to do SHN -> MP3 too).
