Description: Plasmoid which just show active window title and icon. Also allows to close active window with cross icon (its location can be configured) and some other actions (like present-windows effect etc).
This plasmoid is particularly useful when using BorderlessMaximizedWindows=true setting (in ~/.config/kwinrc under [Windows] section). This option can now be turned on/off directly from widget settings.
REQUIRED DEPENDENCIES - qt5-graphicaleffects - e.g. package for kubuntu users: libqt5qml-graphicaleffects
HOW TO INSTALL - Add Widgets... -> Get new widgets -> Download new plasma widgets - find this applet and install through the first item with .plasmoid extension
The option "Hide titlebar for maximized windows" is disabled after reboot. You have to manually reenable it. Temporary workaround here: https://github.com/kotelnik/plasma-applet-active-window-control/issues/145
For an actively developed and maintained alternative: https://store.kde.org/p/1272871 and https://store.kde.org/p/1274218/ and https://store.kde.org/p/1274975
It seems this great applet is no longer maintained/updated.
I see very small buttons that fit into the upper half of the top panel.
Does anyone know where it stores user settings?
There's no such user configuration file in "~/.local/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.activeWindowControl" which only includes default files that don't record user preferences.
7Vala-panel appmenu, fcitx-Appmenu and mate appmenu are able to show some sort of menu bar while no program is active and
only "Desktop" is shown. Is it possible to implement that feature into this widget or to design something similar?
As @michaldybczak points out, this plugin is no longer developed and some things (app menu) no longer work on recent Plasma.
For a replacement, check out https://github.com/psifidotos/applet-window-buttons (for customizable window buttons) and https://github.com/psifidotos/applet-window-title (for the application and window title).
10A setting for making the title-bar of maximized windows disappear, and allows you to put the close/maximize-buttons in an auto-hiding panel instead. Preferably in the corner where you are used to have the buttons.
Allows a lot of customization!
The bad: I don't get the "App menu" to appear. It may be me missing something.
This plasmoid is no longer developped and uses old stack of code for global menus that is no supported anymore! Please, use instead this three applets (made by latte devloper):
https://github.com/psifidotos/applet-window-buttons
https://github.com/psifidotos/applet-window-title
https://github.com/psifidotos/applet-window-appmenu
For stripping titlebar in maximized mode use latte (the option is on layouts configuration page as "borderless").

Hi, I want to modify the x icon. How can I do?
Go to this folder and start tweaking: ~/.local/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.activeWindowControl/
10 Seamingly simple but realy amazing when you play with it.
9 Maximize doesn't switch to restore button after window is maximized, it still shows maximize button.

I noticed that the title text in the widget is left-justified. Is there any way to center the text? Thanks!
aurorae theme is not a perfect circle, it is crooked

Yeah... App Menu doesn't show to me either! I have created a bug report, but so far no one looked at it: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=404359
