PlayWolf Elements
KDE Plasma 4 Extensions
Score 74%
Description:

This is a set of Plasma Widgets thoughts to be used in conjunction with Grouping Desktop (http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?action=content&content=116926) to control and show information about songs played by Amarok and other players.
This set provides four Widgets:
-PlayWolf Cover shows the cover;
-PlayWolf Label shows the title, album name, artist and time;
-PlayWolf Button provids a button that can be configured to go back one song, forward one song, stop or play/pause;
-PlayWolf Slider shows a slider that can be used to seek the song.

Moving and putting the different widgets in different groups in various ways you can obtain every interface you can think of!

This is experimental, still, so do not expect it to be glitch-free, but it should work.

After updating to 0.2.2, fonts turned black on my system (running 4.6 trunk). very hard to read on my desktop... all other plasma fonts are white.

Well, that is strange sice 0.2.2 doesn't introduce a single change in the code of the applets relatively to 0.2.1. All i modified was the .desktop files. Which version did you have before?

Well, I'm using the arch linux packagebuild from AUR, so i guess i was using 0.2.1 before...

happens also with other plasmoids on kde-trunk right now, so, its not a problem of playwolf-elements.

Most of the widgets in this package freeze plasma consistently when I try to add them. Only the album art works. I am using KDE 4.5.2 and Qt 4.7 if that helps.

Thanks for pointing that out, now you can update or wait for 4.5.3, which one you prefer :P

That seems to have fixed it. Thanks!

I have some unrelated suggestions:

1. It would be nice if we could disable the place background on the individual items.

2. For instance with the folderview widget there is a "shadow" around the text that makes it easier to read. This might a solution to the earlier concerns about readability.

3. I personally prefer playwolf's slider, it would be nice if this was an option.

4. It would be nice if there was a button to open the Amarok window, like playwolf has.

5. It would be nice if the label supports html code for formatting.

6. It would be nice if the slider could be set to handle progress or volume.

7. It would be nice if there was a lyrics elements.

1. Place background? I don't understand what you mean.

2. Makes sense, will do.

3. The Playwolf's one is a bit more complex to do but it is doable. And i agree it's more cool, so i could do it.

4. I don't know... it works with other players too, so why Amarok and not Juk, for instance?

5. Uh, it seems QLabel can render html. So there's the possibility you can already do it. Have you tried?

6. Makes sense.

7. See above :)

1. Sorry, "place" was a typo, I just meant the widget background. Other widgets usually call the setting "transparent", but that almost always means "completely invisible".

2. Great.

3. Also great.

4. It is a button playwolf has. I just thought that since this is called "playwolf elements" I would expect it to have at least all the elements playwolf has. I guess there is no reason you couldn't have both, though.

5. Yes, I tried. It did't work.

6 & 7. Great as well.

1. So you'd want to disable the background? Why?

4. But Playwolf works with Amarok only. Anyway i have an idea that could allow me to do that.

Anyway I'm currently busy with Grouping Desktop, since the feature freeze is near. When i'll be tired of fixing bugs only i'll work on this :)

1. Primarily it is for the buttons and slider. Particularly for the buttons the background doesn't add anything, the buttons are fine on their own. My plan is to put the buttons and slider over the album art, but the background covers most of the album art. It also isn't very useful for the album art, but that isn't as big a deal. And I could imagine people using layouts where it doesn't help with the logo, either (especially if you use the shadows).

2. Maybe a different name might be good then? Playwolf, as best as I can tell, is named that because it is designed to work exclusively with amarok (which uses a wolf logo). If playwolf elements is designed to work with other software as well, then maybe a different name would be better so as not to confuse users.

I really like the feature of opening a player by play/pause button.
Could you please do the same with the stop button for closing the player?
I mean, i would like that pushing stop button closes amarok...

Report

giucam

but amarok places its icon in the system tray, so you can close it anyway in a matter of instants.
sincerely, i don't find this worth the work that would need, but you can try to make me change my mind! :)

Report

That's true but this way i could hide amarok tray icon; i'd like it because i don't like having thousend tray icons.
Anyway, i think that stop button is not so useful right now: normally i listen to music, or pause it for a little while or i just shot down amarok, i don't use to keep it on in stop mode...
Anyway it's just an idea! :)

I really appreciate your plasmoid as it is one of the rare ones for Amarok, where you can choose which information to show and which not.

But sadly the font-color of the label is as far as I see it always black, which leads to illegibility with many plasma themes.

Could you perhaps add an option to configure the font color in future? Pretty cool would be the possibility to adjust it just like it is realised in the "Adjustable Clock" plasmoid (http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Adjustable+Clock?content=92825). But this is just a suggestion.

Thanks

mmh, the font color should be told by the theme. do you encounter this problem only when using this, or for every label in plasma?
