I fixed up the build for KDE 4.5.n and added a tool-tip and it seems to work well. A lot better than the supplied applet. You can find it at: http://www.binro.org/plasma-netgraph-0.4.tar.bz2.

I started porting this to KDE 4.3 and used the system-monitor data engine. The code is available here via git: http://projects.archlinux.org/?p=users/thomas/plasma-netgraph.git;a=summary

Forgot to mention: It compiles and works here, but it's not perfect yet, so patches are of course welcome.

Sorry ,I don't plan to.
I use the system monitor plasmoid now.

system monitor plasmoid is not as nearly powerful as your widget is...

it is really sad to her that you abandon this.

What I'd really like to know is this: is it possible to get rid of the graph all together and just have the text available? I'd like a totally text-based DE, and I like the Current In/Current Out thing, but not the graph. How do you do that?

Hey, really nice plasmoid!
But can you add a possibility to choose KBytes per second ?
that would be really nice!

Thanks in Advance

I got a problem with netgraph, all works fine when installing it.
But sometimes after reboot/restart the netgraph graphic is deformed, the plasma process claims 100% cpu usage...after removing netgraph its back to normal, well no big deal but still annoying.Maybe that happens cause i have inserted the plasmoid into the taskbar?

same problem here... removing this plasmoid solved cpu usage at 100%

I'm experiencing the very same problem every time I start up my computer and the netgraph applet is placed in the taskbar. When I do »kquitapp plasma && sleep 2 && plasma &&« or something on my console I can see the debug output of plasma which says that the netgraph widget is recalculating its size in an endless loop. I looked into the code of the applet then and as far as I can tell it's not an issue of the applet but rather a bug in plasma that calls the recalculateGeometry method of the applet in an endless loop.

So what can we do about this problem?

Report

It is an error of the applet. I have deleted call recalculateGeometry() from function constaintsEvent() in a file netgraph.cpp and have added this call in function init() and the problem with 100% cpu usage has dared.

Second it :(

I compiled it on Opensuse 11.0 and it works fine.

I've got a suggestion. I think that present speed should be in Kbytes per second, not Kbits... or there should be a possibility to choose.

any chance for a 4.1-compatible version? It fails when compiling:

/tmp/coremoid-0.3.1/coremoidapplet.cpp: In member function ‘virtual void CoreMoidApplet::init()’:

Thank you for this plasmoid...
Is possible to make it display internet speed in KByte/Sec not in KBit/Sec ?

Sorry for my poor English...

I love your plasmoid, but there is a small bug when placing it in the panel and using xrandr to change screen size: it get's resized also using one third of the width, and part of it is covered by another plasmoids :(

Now that there is a versioned tarball (thx!) you can have my ebuild:

# Distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License v2
# $Header: $

EAPI="1"

inherit kde4-base

PREFIX="${KDEDIR}"

KLV="74071"

DESCRIPTION="A network monitoring Plasmoid"

I'm still using kde-svn. If you use current "stable" (4.0.0) just change NEED_KDE from "svn" to "4.0".

I like this very much :)
But please could you also version your tarball as this makes it easier to see which version you have downloaded or if you need an update.

Thx
