Description:

Yet Another Weather Plasmoid.
There is nothing wrong with the ones that exist, I just wanted something more colorful.

This plasmoid belongs to other people, it would not be where it is without their help. See the README.

Please help with additional themes and translations, thanks.

I thought about yawp's custom logging mechanism in tracing mode :D but I looked cursory through source code of standard plasmoid already and it seems yawp is handling loading/saving and reloading of configuration differently than standard plasmoid which will explain this behaviour...

Therefore I do not need the logfile at the moment and focusing on source code of KDE standard plasmoids... but this might take some time

Hi,
Is this issue with refresh after hibernation known?
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=905587

Report

udev

No, I did not know about this bug and I am not using hibernate at all :(
Are you using hibernate with linux? How long have you been waiting to decide that yawp needs a manual refresh? Have you been trying whether standard KDE-weather-plasmoids supports hibernation, just to ensure it is not the fault of the weather-data-engine?

Can you send a me logfile with hibernation in between?

Cheers

Fedora17, KDE 4.8.5/4.9.1
Plasma crashed at the user's login.
(Crash logs : http://fpaste.org/m39Q/ && http://fpaste.org/tId9/).
But that is not happening with other users with F17, KDE4.8.5/4.9.1.
Any thoughts on this case?

This are actually two log files:
http://fpaste.org/m39Q/
http://fpaste.org/tId9/

Than you will read a message saying content has been expired, but after entering the code you see on the image you will be directed to the logfile

...very user friendly webpage interface :( but it works :P
Cheers and try again...

This has been happening here for a long time as
well. Here are the characteristics:

1. Only happens after rebooting my desktop and
login the first time. Subsequent logins it
does not crash.
2. The desktop has Nvidia graphics and running
propriety drivers from rpmfusion.
3. My laptop with same software (FC17+updates,
x86_64) but with the intel atom graphics does
not crash at all.

This has been going on for a while with many updates of KDE and Nvidia. Sometimes it crashes the whole plasma ending up with a black screen
(under the conditions above).

Why do you think yaWP causes this crashes? What version of yaWP and KDE are you using? Have you updated KDE after installing yaWP? In this case you need to recompile and install yaWP again. Does your system does not crash without yaWP? Do you have some logfiles? Can you compile and install yaWP with the following options from source package:

./install.sh -d -l Tracing -f /tmp/yawp.log

This way yawp will create a logfile in file /tmp/yawp.log. Can you send me this logfile to analyse the crash? Because yaWP does not crash on my system and without any logfiles it is very difficult to find the bug that causes the crashes.

Cheers

Sorry for the late response: I know it because the
KDE debug message says the crash is from yawp.

It seems to be kind of a "race condition". It only
happens after reboot once. I have yawp on my desktop
so something it needs does not start in time. It may be network connection or something. My laptop has an SSD disk so it comes up very fast.

That seems to solve the problem. I rebooted twice
and no crash. Thank you very much.

Hmm, it looks like yawp is crashing right inside the constructor. In this case you will be right and yaWP is using some instances that have not been initialized yet...
Therefore I moved most of the initialization of yaWP from constructor into init method - this will delay the initialization of yawp a little bit and give some components more time to initialize.

Can you try revision 559 of yaWP from trunk, please? When this is not helping much, it will be a great help when you could debug yawp as we wrote in the knowledge-tab.

Cheers

OK, I have done what you suggested. Also, I am
including the plasma crash report. You can find them
at:

http://compsci.cas.vanderbilt.edu/Fedora

Remember that it has been dong this for a while,
with different versions of KDE etc.
Thanks

Since this problem does not happen on my system I need your help to solve this problem. Is it possible for you to compile yaWP with logging set to Tracing mode (like I descripted in my previous post)? This way we can see in which step yaWP crashes. Otherwise we need to make assumptions which is very time-consuming.

Can you check whether this crash also occures when you set startup delay to 5 minutes. You configure this startup delay like this:
yaWP popup menu -> yaWP Settings -> Settings -> Update behaviour -> Start delay. This way yaWP will update the weather information 5 minutes after yaWP has been started.

Can you make sure, the crashes are caused by yaWP? Your logfiles looks like you start some other plasmoids as well... What is happening when you remove or rename plugin for yaWP (path should be something like /usr/lib/kde4/plasma_applet_yawp.so) - in this case yaWP should not be loaded at all and a placeholder-plasmoid will be shown instead...

What version of yaWP are you using - was yawp compiled for this KDE version? YaWP supports KDE 4.8 since 0.4.2. When you update KDE most of the time you need to recompile yaWP as well, because yawp is a plugin for KDE and KDE changes its API quite often...

YaWP comes with its own logging... can you recompile it using the install-script from source-package with the following options:
./install.sh -d -f /tmp/yawp.log -l Tracing

The logging messages will be stored to /tmp/yawp.log - in this case we will hopefully see in which function yawp crashes...

Cheers

You are right, the plasma decreases due to another plasmoid.
Then your plasmoid we assembled correctly (Fedora package).
The problem in my plasmoid (CPUFreqUtility), which uses KAuth for polkit (although in itself it works, do not understand what the conflict).
However, this should not be discussed here.

Can you make the popup window to be a bit brighter like the tooltip?

Report

No, this is not possible - and I do not think this is a good idea, because in this case it would not look like a standard plasmoid anymore.

Hi all,
I tried to compile yawp for my laptop which has the Kubuntu Backports PPA packages for KDE SC 4.9 installed - it compiled fine, but the deb wasn't installable because of unmet dependencies.
Looking into the files I discovered that the dependencies for DEB files are set in ./CMakeLists.text.

In order to get a DEB for KDE 4.9 look into that file and adjust the following line:

Quote: SET(CPACK_DEBIAN_PACKAGE_DEPENDS "kdebase-runtime (>= 4:4.2.1), kdelibs5 (>= 4:4.2.1) | kdelibs5-data (>= 4:4.9), libc6 (>= 2.1.3), libgcc1 (>= 1:4.1.1), libplasma3, libqt4-dbus (>= 4.5.0~+rc1), libqt4-network (>= 4.5.0~+rc1), libqt4-svg (>= 4.5.0~+rc1), libqt4-xml (>= 4.5.0~+rc1), libqtcore4 (>= 4.5.0~+rc1), libqtgui4 (>= 4.5.0~+rc1), libstdc++6 (>= 4.2.1)")

Happy YAWPing, and thanks a lot for this nice applet!

Report

Thank you for the hint. Has been fixed with revision 549. Dependency of KDE and Qt version will be set to version that has been used compiling the applet.

Report

husky

rev. 549 not working properly.

At least for Kubuntu PPA packages the kdelibs5 package has been split up into smaller ones, and my best guess (!) is to depend on kdelibs5-data. (Pls. note: I don't have any idea whether Debian will use the same packaging)

Other problem: The dependency is set to 4.9.00 - but the packages are version 4.9.0-0ubuntu2~precise1~ppa2 which is too low in terms of regexp. It should work with a single zero at the end instead of two.

Report

udev

I have rewritten the cpack generator settings (revision 550) and make debian packages alomost lintian clean. I installed KDE 4.9 on my test system and could create and install yawp-package without any problems.

The version of KDE-kubuntu-packages on my system is 4:4.9.0-0ubuntu2~precise1~ppa2 and I also noticed the KDE Version string "4.9.00" but yawp package has been installed without any problems.

Report

husky

Hi udev,
thanks for your efforts, I appreciate.
I can confirm that r550 does build a DEB with proper dependencies, and it does install fine.
I built a DEB from r549 with a modified CMakeList.txt which had issues with files needing to be overwritten (dpkg -i --force-overwrite), and the DEB from r550 had the same problem today, but I can't tell if others may have the problem, too. As your build seemingly didn't have this glitch I may think it's a problem I caused myself...

Your script still makes the DEB depend on "kdebase-runtime (>= 4:4.9.00)" (note the double zero at the end) - can that be a problem for KDE SC 4.9.1?

Keep on coding!

Report

udev

Hi husky,

I have to confess that old yawp packages have a wrong package name. Therefore I suppose you did not update the package but installed another one. Sorry for causing this problem :-( This bug should be removed with revision 550 and above. So it might be a good idea to remove all old yawp packages first.

The kde version number on my test system is 4:4.9.0 but the kde version inside the control file of yawp package is 4:4.9.00. According to command echo -e "00\n6\n9\n1\n2\n0" | sort -nr version-patch-number "00" has a higher order than "0" - so debian should complain about missing dependency when installing yawp - but did just fine on my system. Therefore I think debian will have no problem with kde version "4.9.1".

Cheers
