Description:

Yet Another Weather Plasmoid.
There is nothing wrong with the ones that exist, I just wanted something more colorful.

This plasmoid belongs to other people, it would not be where it is without their help. See the README.

Please help with additional themes and translations, thanks.

* Bugfix: Desktop mode is not reusing applet size from last session.
* Bugfix: yaWP crashes in systemtray with KDE 4.10

0.4.4 (17 Mar 2012)
* New desktop painter has been added. Yawp can be configured to use the traditional or the new one for desktop and/or for popup window.
* Panel painter has been rewritten
* Initialization stuff of yawp has been moved to init method, because yawp crashes on KDE 4.8 due to the usage of not initialized components.

Using KMessageBoxes within KConfigDialog (yawp settings dialog) still works as expected.
* Google ION has been removed, because Google does not support this service any longer.
* Updating and fixing translations
* Bugfix: yaWP did not update weatherdata periodically after hibernation - it is working now

0.4.3 (17 Apr 2012)
* Show current RealFeel temperature under current temperature (thanks to Alain Soucy)
* Non-modale city search dialog
* Implementing public slot configChanged() to behave like a standard plasmoid - yaWP can be configured from external programs (e.g.: javascript)

0.4.2 (04 Jan 2012)
* Adapting yaWP to KDE 4.8
* ION AccuWeather is showing closer maps for cities of the United States.

* ION Wunderground is supporting satellite maps as well
* ION accuweather is not using a config-file for satellite image mapping any longer (feature has been added in version 0.4.0
but I think this was a stupid idea). Satellite images will be hard coded mapped to location in ION.

When user clicks on the applet (but not on the weather forecast icons) the extender pops up.
The behavior of the applet for clicking on the weather forecast icons can be configured in the config dialog on page "Panel"
option "Use interactive weather icons". When this option is checked the weather icon will toggle between day and night

Hello,
I installed YAWP 0.4.3 on Kubuntu 12.04. Now I have a big piece of blank space in my systray (the part of panel with audio volume etc.) It can't be moved around because it's a part of systray. I tried adding and removing applets, removing everything from systray and readding, restarted Plasma, logged out and in etc. Whatever I do there is about 200 pixels of space that doesn't respond to left or right clicks. YAWP shows fine in systray.

I would like to keep using your plasmoid, please help :)

I think I experience the same behaviour when I change the number of forecast icons or change whether I want to see icons, temperature or both for current weather and forecast icons. Have you tried to resize the panel that contains the systray (throught context menue -> "Panel Options" -> "Panel Settings")? In my case this is forcing the systray to updating its layout and size - so it looks like this is a bug in the panel and systray which do not updating its layout when one of its child applet changing its size.

Hello,
Thanks for response. I can't send you a screenshot because some restarts solved the issue. It's definitely related to configuration changes, whenever I change number or type of icons I get varying amounts of whitespace left and right. But now YAWP is configured the way I like so I'm not touching it anymore :)

I might update to kubuntu 12.04 this or next weekend, so I'm able to test it on my own system. Can you publish a picutre of it or tell us your configuration (horizontal or vertical panel, number of forecast days, are you showing icons and temperature)? Have you tried to show only current day with icon or current temperature - in this case yawp will collapse to an icon size and systray should not have layout problems with it.

Hi,
I have a small question=) Is it possible to change font size, when widget on a panel and show only temperature? Because I don't know why, but my font looks very big and there is no way to change it. http://imagebin.org/212437

Report

How does the fonts / text size of the other applets in your panel look like? We use the default plasma font. You can change this font through kde4-systemsettings (open application systemsettings - select icon "Application Appearance" - select item "Fonts" (General). The font size in YaWP will be calculated and depends on applet size. Sorry for late response. Your screenshot is not accessible any longer :(

better late, than never :) I upload another screenshot here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17051706/sample.png
All icons looks good, but yaWP's text size too big and fill almost all panel height. Is this normal? Because i saw some screenshots, and text was much smaller than mine. Thanks for answer. Your plasmoid is awesome!

Report

udev

Your are right, text of current temperature is really a little bit to big (space below the text should be the same like above the text)

Have you tried to resize the panel to force the panel to do a relayout? Sometimes I noticed that the panel does not pass all events to the applets...

Have you tried other fonts as well?

When above things does not work, you might want to adjust the source code...
The text for current temperature will be/shoulb be vertical centered. So you might want to experiment with modifing the the following line in applet/painter/panelpainter.cpp at line 37
#define HORIZONTAL_TODAYS_TEMPERATURE 0.90f
and replace the value with some smaller one (e.g.: 0.70f). After modifing this line, you need to re-compile and re-install the applet.

Cheers

Yeah I tried resize the panel and change font, but nothing helps. Now I adjusted scale coefficient (0.65 good for me) and re-compile applet. That's really what I need! Thanks a lot for your advice and for great applet. keep it up!

Is there anyway to change the font, I can't see that option.

Hi,
there is no such option. We are using system font.

when i put it in the systray of a vertical panel, it messes it up. the tray tries to be on horizontal (so i can see almost nothing of the tray). If I remove yawp, the systray get back to normal.
thanks for the great job.

Report

Thanks for the bug report. I never noticed it, because I rarely test this combination. It is working perfectly in horizontally systray (even with forecast icons/temps). When I configure yawp to show just current icon and no forecast information in panel mode, than it is working in vertical systray as well, even when systray is using more than one column. Therefore I think the layout management of systray for vertical panel mode is not working properly. Unfortunately I do not know another plasmoid that can be shown in systray and which needs more space than just for an icon.
Since yawp is working in vertical panel mode and plasmoids do not care about whether they live in systray or not (System tray support can be added to all plasmoids just adding another entry ind desktop-file, no modification in source code is necessary) I doubt that yawp is causing the problem...the only workaround for this behaviour that comes to my mind is to force yawp in vertical panel mode and when living in a containment to collapse to current icon only.

Themes can be changed through config dialog.

But feel free to create another theme and share it with the community :)

It's great plasmoid and one of my favs, but it really miss one feature, that most weather applets/plasmoids has - The "feels like" temperature, something, that CWP has and i want YAWP have it too! :)
Greetings!

Report

udev

The "real feel" temperature is a value that AccuWeather supports. YaWP is showing this value in the details window for high/low temperature. We already noticed, that yaWP is not showing the "real feel" temperature for current temperature - but I do not know where to place this value - maybe in the details window, as well - we also could show the current temperature a little bit smaller and put real feel temp right next to it: (e.g.: "*5°")

However as far as I know this is a value that the weather provider needs to support and we are not able to calculate...

Report

gericom

I know that weather provider should support it, but as far, as i can see, Accuweather, Google, weather.com, let's say it 95% of them are supporting it, so it's matter of design - an 8-sized number under the actual temperature, or next to it in a brackets, something like that, check CWP and you will understand what i mean. Thanx in advance!

Report

Has been implemented in trunk 534 and 535...

CWP is using its own proprietary dataengine downloading website and parsing the page using tools like grep, awk, sed,.... This is the reason, while CWP needs to update every time a provider is changing the website layout...
Providers used to show more information on its own websites, than they provide users through weather services.

Yawp on the other hand is using KDE'S plugin weather data engine (called ION) and this ION's do not support real feel temperature yet...only our own ION accuweather. All ION's interact with a weather data service provider to request the information.
