Could be Tuxcursor 128 pixel large? On modern displays are 64 pixels too small. :-(

Currently on Ubuntu this really messed up my installation (although I am no authority on the subject - Linux noob). I place your index.theme out of the default folder into main tuxcursor folder (which seems to be the general consensus since default no longer valid), which also has the sub folder cursors, then place tuxcursor folder into ~/.icons I can then select your cursor in compiz config appearance/custom/cursor. It works but.. size 32 main cursor, all the rest are HUGE, worse still my terminal no longer functions, I lose a lot of desktop graphical settings which is further compounded by root access is stopped because entering a password no longer works. I then have to choose an original cursor and re-install graphics driver before I can get my settings and terminal and password functionality back to normal. Love the cursor, unfortunately bad vote here.

The tux cursor is still on of the best cursors for X. Could you please make a current archive and update the download? The theme only needs the folder tuxcursor_cute (or whatever you choose to be the main folder) with only the directroy "cursors" and the index.theme in it. [Icon Theme] Name=Tuxcursor cute Comment=cute Tux cursor Comment[de]=niedlicher Tux-Mauszeiger Example=left_ptr The folder "default" is obsolte.

An awesomely fun cursor theme!
KDE 3.3 on FC3 had for me a problem where the cursor always goes smaller even with all the .Xcursor.size:48 and XCURSOR_SIZE=48 fixes in place. To ultimately fix this, I had to edit the file:

~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals

and add the line under the [KDE] section somewhere, like this:

[KDE] cursorSize=48 cursorTheme=tuxcursor

I use fedora core 2 i dunno if this causes any problems but i cant seem to install this via kcontrol i have extracted this file and another file that has installed and this file is missing several "sh" files as well as some other files i assume are used for easy integration. Would it be possible for someone to write a script for installing this through kcontrol? I would but i cant code, or would know where to start. This is a fantastic theme it would be better if it could be installed easily. Ya gotta love Tux

These have got to be the best cursors I have ever seen. I have just convinced a friend of mine to try Linux, when I told her there are some animated penguin cursors ;o))

hi great work! if i move cursor to a link and that link have tooltip, the tooltip is hidden behind tux cursor I think tux should move its body to left when it points to link, so the tooltip is not hidden. BTW, new wait icon is really funny...

I think there should be some alternative cursor for busy state. As for me the current one disturbs in normal work. I can't see where the pointer exactly is. There is no arrow or something else that could indicate the left upper corner. A cursor like in the original TuxCursor would be definitely better.

sorry can`t test in all WMs temporarely limited to KDE. when i release the source pngs you will be able to fix it. i also have to guess cursornames... main cursor is: left_ptr

just so you know. this cursor theme is a little screwed up when using any of the *box window managers. they (the *box WMs) use the: ll_angle and lr_angle for resizing windows. i had to copy (by trial and error other files over those 2 files to get it to match the rest of the theme otherwise i got the default (old) X cursors for window resizing. also - what file name is the "hourglass" and the main (arrow) cursor? are they editable? i'd like to be able to open them in the gimp but i tried and it didn't work. -thanks in advance. Just a suggestion for a "hourglass" cursor: Instead of the current one, why not Tux somersaulting from left to right? I think that would be very cute, and also, I don't like the hourglass metaphor that much. (The squeezin Tux is good, though)

you are doing nothing wrong. its meant that way. in 32x32 size mode the hand cursor is a little bit larger, thats just to make it more visible when something is interactive. its meant to pop out a bit. like tux stepping a little step foreward to show you the link :) the hourglass is still in designing progress and therefore 64x64. its a bit huge (depending on your resolution ;) ) but if it would be smaller you wouldnt be able to see details any more... its difficult to satisfy everybodys wishes, some want more animation, some want less. im going to release the sources soon, so everybody can mess around with tux theirself, hehe

I still have not completely figured out how to reliably use Xcursor themes. If I configure the theme via X ressources, it's only partially used, depending on where I point in my apps. If I configure it using index.theme, its used everywhere.

I added a Size=32 below the "Inherits=" line there which seems to work more or less, however some of the icons look too big, eg. the "pointing" tux is quite a bit larger than the animated "standard" tux. The animated hourglass is simply huge. Is this the way it's meant to or am I doing something wrong?

Additionally a suggestion: IMHO it's no too good idea to make the standard cursor animated. How about adding a variant of this theme with a static default cursor that just gets "into action" if changed to a special cursor (eg. make the "pointing tux" cursor animated, instead of the default cursor.) Or publish this theme's sources so I can modify it myself. :-)

Anyway, thanks alot for this really innovative and funny theme! :-)

i guess mandrake 9.1rc2 already comes with xfree 4.3, right? if you are not sure check your xfree version. also try different paths like: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/icons/ or /usr/X11/lib/X11/icons/ you should find the icons directory somewhere. if all fails you can still install in your home directory as single user. create a folder named '.icons' in your home directory. copy the tuxcusor and the default directory in the .icons directory. and check the index.theme in /default if it inherits tuxcursor. i hope one of the methods works for you :)
