Description:
Polar Cursor Theme is a smooth and simple cursor set created primarily in Inkscape.

****Installation****
There are three cursor sets included in this package. The default with the orange busy cursors is called PolarCursorTheme and the blue and green variants have -Blue and -Green added to the end of their theme name. To make sure that all themes are installed (or only the one you want) extract to /.icons/ in your home folder.

****Note****
KDE users please note that installing the cursors through the control center can cause some cursors to use the default X cursors. To fix this simply extract the theme directly to /.icons/ in your home folder.

Finally a special thanks to all the authors of various cursor themes here on gnome-look.org for ideas.

Enjoy!

9 So beautiful cursor theme that goes really well with dark desktop themes.

ben2talk

Actually outlined, so like the Obsidian (black version) they BOTH work well on dark and light themes/backgrounds perfectly.

Thanks, this really is one of the nicest cursor styles that I've found. Can you make a non-animated version? For one thing, Compiz has a compatibility problem with xfree and animated cursors do not work with my setup. For another, I know two people with vertigo, and the animated cursor is very disturbing for them to look at. Thanks!

Hi, I am a complete new user to linux. I downloaded your cursors but I don't know how to install them. Thank you very much for your help!

It takes a while to get used to these cursor, but they look nice and they are the more "Plastik" around. Good work!

benplaut

1000 downloads, i'm making you a small version... stay tuned on gnome-look :D

When I hover my mouse over an icon on a desktop, I see a lame old icon instead of your theme's hand. Any ideas?

anderslund

I found that a lot of icons in the cursors directory was missing, instead there was empty files. If you look at for example the jimmac theme, you can see which files should be linked to all the empty files.

This is a bug with the way KDE extracts the tarball. If you extract it yourself and move the folder to the cursors folder (~/.icons I believe) it should fix the problem.

Great cursor theme! Yea In the mouse control applet in Gnome-2.12 you can change the cursor. You can also put the cursors in ~/.cursors and the program will be able to read it.

bersace03

Hello, First : bravo for the theme, its a high quality theme and a very pretty design. Second : there is obviously a lake of cursors : especially for Gimp tools. Are you gonna make this tools cursors ? Thanks !

Typo

Great theme, but only the arrow and sometimes the hand seem to work for me. The resize, move and busy cursors come from my default cursor theme. Anyone find a solution to this? I'm running KDE 3.4.2

Finally got a chance to test this out and I've found out what needs to be done to fix the problem. It appears that when installing the cursors through the Control Center that the symlinks are not copied correctly. To solve this problem all you have to do is extract the PolarCursorTheme folder to /home/your username/.icons/ and that should solve your missing cursors problem.

Good work!

crimanekdoten

thank you for your comment, but firstly, there is no /usr/share/cursors folder in my filesystem, so I created the folders as root, put the theme folder into /usr/share/cursors/xorg-x11 and a new index.theme - file (with just the line Inherit=PolarCursorTheme in it) into /usr/share/cursors/xorg-x11/default and restarted the gnome-session, but it didn't change the cursor-theme....

ECHM

Ok to change your cursor theme for your gnome session, first extract the PolarCursorsTheme folder to /home/your username/.icons/ Then open up the gnome configuration editor (gconf-editor) and go to desktop>gnome>peripherals>mouse and change the cursor_theme key value to PolarCursorTheme. Finally you'll need to log out and restart X before the changes will take affect. Now there is a program that will do this for you called gcursor available at http://www.gnomefiles.org/app.php?soft_id=125 with it you can install a cursor theme just like you would a GTK or Metacity theme. Hope this helps.
