Description:

SyncWall is quite a basic wallpaper changer with a special feature, it is the ability to synchronize wallpaper change between several workstations with a basic (and unsecured) client/server protocol. SyncWall has also some multi monitor support.

I found that I had the quit after 30 seconds option enabled. Otherwise it is working properly.

One suggestion would be to have the app refresh after you disconnect from a second monitor. As it is the rendered split image is condensed down to one screen.

Here is a screencap of a bug with 12.04 and multiple monitors. The display orientation defaults to the smaller screen being on top despite the Ubuntu display properties having it aligned with the bottom. Also Syncwall with crash when the apps display property panel stays open for more than 10 seconds or so.

I think its a great program but I am hoping for some light and dark themed icons :)

I tried it out tonight, the alignment works great! It sets the picture no problem. But for some reason the app/process will not stay active for more than half a min. I am forced to restart to change the wallpaper. I am not sure how to troubleshoot.

? I've try this release on 12.04 with virtualbox and I have not been able to detect any problems. You can launch syncwall on a console to have a log ? Or launch a debug build in gdb or valgrind ?

Synchronizing the wallpaper via network doesn't work, at least in Ubuntu. The log says:

Received background change: "1.0|wallpapers/wallpaper.jpg|3|1|1|#0596c8|#05fac8|0|0|5"
new file received: wallpapers/wallpaper.jpg
ERROR: Can't find local file as received: wallpapers/wallpaper.jpg

Any idea what's wrong?

You must shared the files between your network (with quite the same structure). There is'nt any automatic transfert of file between server and clients. Perhaps in a future release ...

Do you use KDE4 ? I've currently a problem with KDE4 but I've found a workaround by setting manually the current wallpaper to the generated one (locate in $HOME/.SyncWall/dynamic_wallpaper.png). It's not very clean but it works.

Yes, KDE4. I already tried the workaround found on http://thehive.xbee.net/index.php?module=pages&func=display&pageid=1#Known_limitations

I setup the 2560 x 1024 wallpaper on Desktop Setting - Plasma Desktop Shell and selected Centered in Positioning but the wallpaper was only displayed on one monitor.

I have NVIDIA Twinview.

I haven't test the multimonitor on Linux, only on Seven. I've a dual monitor configuration and it seems to work. I can't test now but I've created a ticket on SF for that

I have successfully created an RPM that if tests are OK will be sent upstream to the PCLinuxOS repository.

However onn the Debug tab:

SystemIntegration: The process failed to start. Either the invoked program is missing, or you may have insufficient permissions to invoke the program.

I am unable to change wallpapers.

Now, you can create one file by monitor, so you can assign these files to each activity (in KDE4, one monitor = one activity). I known, it's not a full support for multi monitor but it's a first step for KDE4 ...
