Active Window Control

Plasma 5 Applets by clearmartin 136 comments

My bad again. There is a mechanism to limit number of rows in text based on panel height, too. But now I see that for really thin panel it doesn't work. I will provide a fix later this day. Thanks for reporting bugs btw:) - Apr 30 2015

Sorry, my bad. I was using [wrapMode: Text.WordWrap] instead of [wrapMode: Text.Wrap]. Now it should be fixed. - Apr 29 2015

Sorry for the late response. Please refer to cca 4th comment in here: http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Weather+Widget?content=169572

It answers similar question and it is analogic for this widget.

When I have more time I will write this to the description of this widget. - Apr 28 2015

It is already there. I mean the automatic ellipsis. But it seems QT component "Text" is not perfect and does not handle long non-spaced strings so they are overflowing... Maybe it will be fixed in future versions of QT or maybe I misconfigured the Text component. Can anybody see what have I done wrong?

Anyway I should probably implement some workaround... - Apr 28 2015

Thanks! And don't worry, it won't stay in beta state forever;) - Apr 15 2015
Weather Widget

Plasma 5 Weather by clearmartin 179 comments

Hi, I don't know how it can be installed via plasma but here is how I would be installing it manually to my home folder:
1) Download the source (weather-widget.zip)
2) Unzip
3) Copy folder plasma-applet-weather-widget-master/org.kde.weatherWidget to ~/.local/share/plasma/plasmoids/ (so you will have now existing folder: ~/.local/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.weatherWidget/ with some stuff in it)
4) Copy file plasma-applet-weather-widget-master/org.kde.weatherWidget/metadata.desktop to folder ~/.local/share/plasma/kservices5/ and rename it as you like (e.g. weatherWidtget.desktop)
5) Restart plasma (e.g. by logging out and in again)
6) Now try to add the widget. Its name is "Weather Widget" in Widgets selection. - Apr 14 2015

I understand now. I didn't know there is a plasma shell console. I definitely look into this. Thank you. - Apr 08 2015

I've just added some visual settings to version 1.1.

These are my plans:
- device name blacklist
- support for showing connections in grid (e.g. 2 rows in horizontal panel)
- show visual history (graph) of each connection

Your suggestions will be appreciated :) - Mar 29 2015

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean the support for installing this widget to panel over Plasma Panel Settings -> Add Widgets... -> Get New Widgets -> Download New Plasma Widgets? If this is the case, could you please point me to the right documentation/tutorial? - Mar 28 2015

It also crossed my mind to add some kind of unity-like menu (or menu button for that purpose). But first I need to figure out how to do that :-) It will be definitely the next bigger think I'll look into for this widget.

And to your previous comment: Thanks for your feedback. I will try to set the buttons' size more appropriately. But I really don't know about the "pushing" the title aside while showing up the buttons. It would be too jumpy-looking in my opinion. But maybe if I have time I give it a try. - Mar 28 2015

I see, thanks for this suggestion. I've done these changes to the version 1.1. But all this can be disabled. - Mar 27 2015

Thanks for the point with the "almost same name". I wasn't aware of the other widget. My intention was to recreate this one: http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Yet+Another+Window+Control?content=139916

But I realize in both cases I have to add much more features. I'm planning to look into that this weekend.

Also thanks for the requests/recommendations. I will be adding these features soon. What exactly did you mean by the mouse scroll over the widget? - Mar 25 2015

Sorry for the double message. And sorry for this message at all, because I suppose this widget is just extending existing widget "Current Application Control" which appears to have the same memory leak. - Aug 25 2013

I really like this widget mainly because of the drag-window functionality. But this particular widget seems to have a memory leak which is increased each time I switch windows. So in the end of the day Xorg shared memory is more or less 1GB high and I have to kill plasma-desktop and start it again to gain acceptable memory values for some time. I'm using KDE 4.11 but this memory leak occured in 4.10 as well. - Aug 25 2013
