Hi, I've uploaded a new theme called Grass, here https://www.pling.com/p/1726175/, based on Soil, which is a light version of it (plus a few differences, such as the lack of black border around most controls, and a better xfwm4 theme which works great with Soil, too). - Mar 06 2022

All right, dconf should look better now. I don't know who decided that separators have to be in a disabled row, but... The thing is that disabled rows were shown as if selected. And as far as Nautilus goes, until this new version does not come to Manjaro (which shouldn't take long, it's a rolling distro), I can't test it. Current Nautilus (41.2) looks OK. I've also dimmed a bit the headerbar green color, in order to better detect selected-coloured elements. - Mar 02 2022

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Ah, since I'm not using Gnome at the time, I didn't notice this Nautilus problem... I'll check it out in (hopefully) not much time. And yes, I will also remove the headerbar animation, and will leave it for a fantasy-inspired theme that might come out some day, that looks more like a game. - Mar 01 2022

Well, I've never tried it, but my guess is that adding a window.background selector and adding there the image (with background-image) will do the trick. I'd add it to line 199, for coherence. So I think this might work:
window.background {
background-image: url("/absolute/path/to/your/image");

Hi, I don't quite understand your question. To install this theme, you can uncompress it in your ~/.themes directory, so that there is a ~/.themes/CyberHack directory.
Or, if you want to use git directly, yo can go to ~/.themes and execute:
git clone https://git.disroot.org/eudaimon/CyberHack.git
This way, you'll be able to update the theme with `git pull` directly. - Jan 22 2022

Certainly, having an accompanying Cinnamon and Gnome Shell themes would be great. Unfortunately my availability is rather low, and this theme itself needs still a lot of improvement, especially for its GTK4 version (for example, gtk4-widget-factory is very sluggish while using this theme, while it is not when using default Adwaita or some other gtk4 themes, and I haven't the slightest idea why). I'd love to have the time (and income) to be able to dedicate more time on this and other themes I've been developing. Maybe I'll add a paypal link and hope for the best :) - Jan 03 2022

Hi, I think you're right: it can be misleading. I've removed that part. The thing is that a GTK theme is used by all GTK apps, regardless of the desktop type, and Cinnamon and Budgie desktops mostly have GTK apps. On top of this app widget style there is the desktop style (Gnome Shell, Budgie, Cinnamon, XFCE...), which has its own visual components (or widgets). So when I was marking these desktops, I only meant that the theme works well under these desktops (or it should), not that it includes specific themes for them.
I'm only into GTK themeing, no Cinnamon, Budgie, Gnome Shell or Mate (Metacity), so I'm afraid I won't provide these. I do provide a xfwm4 theme (for XFCE), though. - Jan 02 2022

Well, I think I got the from different sources. He offers some in his DeviantArt page: https://www.deviantart.com/mattahan. Then maybe some others were from other attempts at creating Linux icon sets from these, such as OxayotlTheGreat's https://www.opendesktop.org/p/1012512. This is definitely a collective work.
Paul Davey (Mattahan) has drawn also other sets of icons, which are also very cool, but its license is not free. - Nov 24 2021

Definitely one of the best icon themes around here, which is perfect for non-flat or skeuomorphic themes, which I love.
However, I'd like to request an improvement: XFCE has moved to using this new trend in icon naming, which is including the reverse domain of the organization behind the software. Thus, most current XFCE icons start with org.xfce. Papirus theme is one of the most complete themes, and can be a good guide to know which symbolic links to create.

Hi,
Well, I don't draw the icons: they are all from an artist called Paul Davey (alias Mattahan, http://www.mattahan.com), who once drew an icon set and published it with an open license. The only thing I do is to combine them or modify them to fit a full theme's growing requirements. Of course it is impossible (for the time I have) to be able to cover all the possible icons, or to draw new ones for each new application or function that appears in the different GNU/Linux distributions. It is always going to be incomplete, but I try to cover the ones that are used most. Some abstract icons are difficult to build from the current set, so I tend to leave them (until I figure an interesting or funny way to represent them). I rarely draw new things, at most I my add some element here and there. I do modify colors sometimes.
Despite not drawing things, the amount of hours dedicated to this set is huge.
I'll look into these Qt apps, by the way. - Nov 17 2021

I am giving a 10 now because I like how it is evolving very much. I prefer these not so dark colors, it makes the theme much more usable for me. Great job Dani!.

I have just found some errors when loading gtk4-widget-factory:

(gtk4-widget-factory:3037): Gtk-WARNING **: 19:27:36.262: Theme parsing error: gtk.css:4403:12-17: "shade" is not a valid color name.

(gtk4-widget-factory:3037): Gtk-WARNING **: 19:27:36.262: Theme parsing error: gtk.css:4420:12-15: "mix" is not a valid color name.

(gtk4-widget-factory:3037): Gtk-WARNING **: 19:27:36.263: Theme parsing error: gtk.css:4425:12-15: "mix" is not a valid color name.

They appear because there is a space between the function name (mix or shade) and the following parenthesis. GTK4 is more picky with that, GTK3 apparently ate them without protesting. - Nov 14 2021

Hi! There is no with these colors. The theme picked them from Kvantum's KvCyan color scheme (that is, by selecting this color scheme in Plasma; remember this theme uses Breeze GTK's trick to pick current Plasma color scheme). But you can edit theme_colors.css to customize your colors. I have started to create two color themes and made theme_colors.css a link to one of theme. You can create your own custom css and link theme_colors.css to yours (beware that if you want to use git to update, you'll probably have to recreate the link each time, and may get some complaints about branches and so on) - Nov 13 2021

Thank you very much! That was my intention: to make it quite easy to change a theme's colors. Nowadays most themes hardcode their colors (probably calculated when processing a SASS source file). This makes it difficult for a user which does not want to prepare all the infrastructure to rebuild source SASS (if it is available at all). Oomox (Themix) also provides a gui to create new themes, but I don't like its base themes, so I just needed this, too :) - Nov 11 2021

Well, I'm sorry then, I'm afraid I can't help you, I don't know why would you Plasma not create this file. Maybe you need to select Breeze GTK as default theme for GTK applications (and then switch back to pho-earth-adaptive)?.
However, you might just use the new functionality I added: editing theme_colors.css (thus also having a visual consistency with GTK4 theme). This is not an automatic way to adapt to your theme, but it's more than nothing. - Nov 11 2021

GTK3/4 Themes by nestort 53 comments

Hi! Hmm... I don't know why this could be. Usually this is what I've seen Plasma does: it creates (if it doesn't exist) the folder ~/.config/gtk-3.0/ and there it adds some files, of which these are the relevant ones, I think: gtk.css which only includes on line:
@import 'colors.css';
And then the file called colors.css which has all the colors from your current plasma theme, such as:
@define-color borders_breeze #776b5b;
@define-color content_view_bg_breeze #c6b6a3;
@define-color error_color_backdrop_breeze #a4613a;
@define-color error_color_breeze #943e0f;
....etc (more than 70 different colors).

Could you check if these exist? If they don't, I don't know what could it be happening. Maybe you need to install Breeze GTK package (it is the GTK theme for which these two files are intended for, and is developed by KDE) - Nov 03 2021

I need to check Azurra Framework too, because I saw it has a GTK4 branch, although I don't know if it's ready or still a work in progress. But yes, GTK4 has different selectors for window CSD, so window border and cyan "shadows" do not work directly if you just try to copy gtk-3.0 folder to gtk-4.0. - Oct 20 2021

Hi! Well, you can customize the theme fairly easily because I've put a file called theme_colors.css at the root of the theme, which is imported both by GTK3 and GTK4 css files. It is quite strightforward to define colors there (they are in hexadecimal RGB format, and you can use any online color picker if you need one) - Oct 19 2021

Actually, I've had an idea: I'm going to create a CSS with just color definitions, which will be shared by both GTK3 and GTK4 versions. This way it's going to be much easier to customize the theme, even without using KDE. I'll do this also because apparently the trick KDE Plasma uses for GTK3 does not work for GTK4, so for now I think it is not possible to synchronize KDE Plasma's color scheme with GTK4. I still haven't pushed these changes to the remote git, so they're not available yet. - Oct 16 2021

It is actually quite easy to customize the GTK3 version of the theme: if you open the file pho-earth-adaptive/gtk-3.0/gtk-contained-dark.css, there you'll find at the beginning all the colours defined (the ones with 6 numbers or letters after a #). You'll alse see some colors are defined according to some others: you don't need to touch these (but you can). To edit a color, you need to generate the color code, "hexadecimal color code". You can use this web https://www.color-hex.com/ or any program such as GIMP. Gedit text editor has a plugin to easily generate the code in the own editor with a color picker, also.
GTK2 can also be edited (pho-earth-adaptive/gtk-2.0/gtkrc), though it may need some scanning of the whole file to find some other hardcoded values here and there. - Aug 02 2021
