A monochromatic color-compatible theme based on the style of Spectrum Minimal Classic. The task indicators on the panel are minimal and more simplified. This is the neutral theme base for the new Colors added to Spectrum.
Changing Panel Color:
The hard-coded color themes in Spectrum are meant for ease of use, but if you would like to set the color of your own panel and menus, all you have to do is:
This process is more complicated than suggested, but it certainly makes for a nice customization.
Changing Panel Opacity:
Opacity can now be changed using the script included with theme. Navigate to the theme's directory and pass a value from 0 to 99 to the script.
For example:
Spectrum replaces the now discontinued Genome in favor of the new design directions Plasma is going in. Past designs only work with older versions of the desktop and are no longer possible today. To view them see, Dark and Light.
Changing Panel Color:
The hard-coded color themes in Spectrum are meant for ease of use, but if you would like to set the color of your own panel and menus, all you have to do is:
- add a color scheme file (*.colors) of your choice to this theme's directory in ~/.local/share/plasma/desktoptheme/spectrum-classic-colors/
- change the name of the file to just "colors" so its name and period are both removed.
- reapply the theme and your panel and menus should now have become the color of the theme you chose.
This process is more complicated than suggested, but it certainly makes for a nice customization.
Changing Panel Opacity:
Opacity can now be changed using the script included with theme. Navigate to the theme's directory and pass a value from 0 to 99 to the script.
For example:
$ cd ~/.local/share/plasma/desktoptheme/spectrum-classic-colors
$ ./changeOpacity 43

Now testing script to change Plasma Theme opacity. Navigate to ~/.local/share/plasma/desktoptheme/spectrum-classic-basic/ and pass a value to the script between 0 and 99.
For example:
Finally, switch to another plasma theme and back to see the new opacity.
This constructs the original Genome Dark theme with the new Spectrum theme.
Installs:
Spectrum Dark Aurorae Theme
Spectrum 21 Aurorae Set
Genome Dark Color Scheme
Genome Dark Classic Plasma Theme
Spectrum Classic Plasma Theme
Spectrum Classic Opaque Plasma Theme
Spectrum Dark Icons
Configuration:
The Spectrum themes change color according to the Color Scheme you have equipped.
From System Settings, go to "Colors" to change your Color Scheme. Go to "Plasma Style" to change between Spectrum themes. Plain themes will change color with your Color Scheme.
To adjust transparency of the panel and menus:
Under Workspace: Workspace Behavior > Desktop Effects
"Background contrast" to toggle between 2 levels of transparency.
"Blur" will let you choose the strength of the blur effect as well as noise.
Under Appearance: Application Style > Window Decorations
Switch between the opaque and translucent versions of the window border.
"No Borders" and "No Side Borders" are the recommended window border sizes.
There are a lot of other effects in Desktop Effects to try if you are new to KDE Plasma.
Troubleshooting:
Have you tried turning it off and on again? Sometimes plasma assets will not update and some may still be themed according to something you previously had set. This can usually be fixed by restarting the applications that used the asset (e.g. Dolphin).
To restart plasmashell, open KRunner with "Alt + F2" to execute the following:
For example:
$ cd .local/share/plasma/desktoptheme/spectrum-classic-basic/
$ ./changeOpacity 40
Finally, switch to another plasma theme and back to see the new opacity.
